These hand-driven PYREX®; tissue grinders are supplied with two pestles to ensure dissociation of cells into fine particles with minimal damage to cell nuclei. Particularly useful in enzyme studies where heat build-up must be avoided.
• The internal diameter at the bottom of the unground glass tube (mortar) is .6000"± .0005"
• Use the large clearance "A" pestle for initial reduction of soft tissue. The diameter of the ground and polished end is .5950"± .0005" for a nominal clearance of .005" with the tube.
• Complete the homogenization with the small clearance "B" pestle. The diameter of the ground and polished end is .5980"± .0005" for a nominal clearance of .002" with the tube.

PYREX tissue grinders are designed to handle both initial grinding and final homogenization in the same sequence of operations. The lower conical section is intended primarily for the initial grinding. To assist in this work the clearance between mortar and pestle can be adjusted at will by raising or lowering the pestle. The upper cylindrical section is for the final homogenization.

The capacity PYREX tissue grinders (homogenizers) are recommended for soft tissues found in the liver and brain. They are designed to handle both initial grinding and final homogenization in the same sequence of operations. Mortar is not ground and the pestle contact surface is Teflon, threaded onto a stainless steel shaft. -Caution: If used with a motor-driven device, the attachment must contain some form of friction release clutch to prevent damage to the apparatus from pieces of connective tissue or muscle. The user should wear a protective glove of sufficient thickness to prevent injury in the event of failure of the glass components.

These motor-driven capacity PYREX tissue grinders (homogenizers) are used in preparing small samples for pathological and biochemical studies. The clearance between the ground tube and pestle is approximately 0.15mm. The parts are ground to a medium grind to insure adequate abrasive qualities, yet deliver a fine homogenous sample. -Caution: If used with a motor-driven device, the attachment must contain some form of friction release clutch to prevent damage to the apparatus from pieces of connective tissue or muscle.
